ConsejoSano Statement on Confirmation of Secretary Xavier Becerra
North Hollywood, CA (March 18, 2021) – Abner Mason, the founder and CEO of culture-specific patient engagement company ConsejoSano, issued the following statement today on the confirmation of Xavier Becerra as U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary:
“We at ConsejoSano applaud the Senate’s confirmation of Xavier Becerra as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. We know Secretary Becerra will work tirelessly to ensure the health and well-being of all Americans, but as the first Latino to run our nation’s health department, he represents our communities of color that have long been overlooked and underserved.
“With its disproportionate effect on Black and brown people, the COVID-19 pandemic has shone a light on the disparities inherent in our health system. We are hopeful that Secretary Becerra will guide all aspects of his agency, especially the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, to tackle these inequities by addressing key issues like social and cultural determinants of health.
“Secretary Becerra will be facing the immediate challenges of COVID-19, from overcoming vaccine hesitancy to ensuring vaccine access for the hardest hit communities. While it will not be an easy task, we are confident that his leadership will shepherd our country through the pandemic and beyond. We look forward to working with HHS and our health plan and health system partners to achieve this vision of equitable health care for all.”
