ConsejoSano Sponsored Forum to Discuss Future of Medicaid Leads to HealthTech for Medicaid Coalition

Leading healthcare advocates came together on January 9, 2018 at Glide Memorial Church to attend the ConsejoSano sponsored forum, The Future of Medicaid, during J.P. Morgan week. The goal of the forum was to educate communities about Medicaid and discuss innovative solutions that will help Medicaid recipients.

Andy Slavitt, Keynote Speaker

Andy Slavitt, the keynote speaker and former Administrator of the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services, addressed the current state of Medicaid, what is happening in healthcare, and the importance of education and awareness within communities.

Four esteemed panelists were also invited to participate in the discussion: Christian Seale, Founder and General Partner of Startupbootcamp/Miami; Margaret Laws, President and CEO of HopeLab; Greg Buchert, President and CEO of Blue Shield Care1st Health Plan; and Molly Coye, Executive in Residence at AVIA served as moderator. Following the forum, the panelists answered questions from audience members.

Over 120  people attended the event and included entrepreneurs, tech innovators, investors, policy makers, health care professionals, and payors. Attendees used the event to discuss topics such as the power and importance of technology used in healthcare in underserved communities and the challenges and opportunities for Medicaid in the future.

Why is Medicaid so important? 1 in 5 Americans use Medicaid. Additionally, half of all enrollees are families living under the federal poverty line and ten million of the Medicaid insured are disabled. As ConsejoSano continues their research efforts, the need for discussion focusing on healthcare for the underserved grows.

The results of these discussions at the forum led to the creation of HealthTech for Medicaid (HT4M), a coalition of industry leaders dedicated to underserved populations by collaborating and creating innovative ideas in relation to Medicaid.

Although ConsejoSano will return next year to host a second forum on Medicaid during J.P. Morgan week, CEO, Abner Mason, wants to take action immediately. HealthTech for Medicaid aims to compile and create innovative solutions that will improve Medicaid health outcomes, and ConsejoSano asks for any ideas that can help them push for change.
